Full Description: This foundational session is essential for both new law enforcement officers and experienced professionals needing a refresher on best practices for child abuse and neglect investigation. The workshop covers the full spectrum of topics, from securing the scene to effectively moving the case forward through coordination with partner agencies. Topics include recognizing the broad indicators of physical abuse, neglect, and sexual abuse; thorough evidence identification and interrogation preparation; and leveraging digital evidence. Participants will receive training in trauma-informed interviewing techniques for victims, witnesses, and non-offending caregivers. The course also reviews the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) approach, detailing the process for collaboration and the role of the Child Advocacy Center (CAC) and the forensic interview in the investigative process.
